Emily was raised in the small mill town of Kannapolis, NC. She faithfully attended Memorial UMC on West "C" Street. Emily grew up surrounded by loving family members, including her late Aunt Kate Whitley, and her dear friends, the "Dirty Eight". Emily was a majorette in the A.L. From there, she graduated from the University of South Carolina with a teaching degree. As fate would have it, she and three friends moved to Baltimore, MD, to teach English. It was at Hampstead Hill Junior High School where she met her husband. They married on August 12, 1967. Through the years, they lived in Baltimore, Asheville, Charlotte and Cary. After teaching and staying at home with her girls, Emily went on to have a successful career at Weyerhaeuser where she worked for 25 years. She was fiercely loyal to her family and friends, and she always had an open ear for anyone who needed someone to listen. Emily's love for her daughters and grandsons was immeasurable. She will be remembered for her beautiful smile, love of singing and dancing. Emily is survived by her daughters, Heather (Jay) Banks of Charlotte, NC and Kara (Jeff) Hornada of Apex, NC; grandsons Alexander Buck Hornada, Gavin Douglas Banks and Andrew Stack Hornada; brother, Ira Wayne (Ann) Love of Cary, NC; sister, Kathy (John) Hoce of Hilton Head, SC; and brother-in-law, Murt (Gail) Stack of Baltimore, MD.
