Emma Jean "Maria" (Mcintyre) Martin

Emma Jean “Maria” McIntyre Martin, aged 80, of China Grove, NC, passed peacefully into the arms of our Lord on Thursday, December 7th, 2023, at Atrium Health Cabarrus in Concord, NC. She was born on March 13, 1943, in Cabarrus County, NC, to the late John Lyle and Edna Gladys Wycoff McIntyre.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Thomas “Sonny” Martin; her son, Danny Thomas Jenkins; her niece, Sherry Jean McIntyre; and a great-niece, Christina Suzanne McIntyre Affolter. Her legacy continues through her three daughters, Shelby Juhaish of Kannapolis, NC, Sue Bachman of Ohio, and Cindy Kirkman of Asheville, NC; her devoted sister, Carolyn McIntyre of China Grove, NC; her niece, Melissa Graham; great-niece Stacy Boone Freyer, her husband Matthew Freyer; great-great-niece, Alexa Freyer; along with ten

grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and nieces.

Emma Jean, affectionately known to her friends as Maria, was a shining light in the lives of those she touched. Her infectious laughter and warm smile could brighten the darkest of days. She was a strong woman who held her emotions close to her heart and took life in stride.

Maria found great joy in music and enjoyed sharing her love and knowledge. She played the piano and took on the challenge of learning to play the guitar later in life. Her musical talent was not just a hobby but a way to connect with her children and family, sharing stories and songs that will echo in their memories.

Her strength allowed her to fight a long battle with illness. Her loving, dedicated sister and family were by her side until she finally succumbed to the arms of Christ. Throughout her battle, Maria's faith remained unwavering. Her resilience and steadfast belief were a source of strength and inspiration to those around her. She navigated life's challenges, always keeping her faith at the forefront. She did not just die, but she was delivered into eternity with a new life with Christ forever.

As we bid farewell to Maria, we remember not just the sorrow of her passing but the joy she brought to life. Her spirit, love, and laughter will continue to live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and those fortunate enough to know her.

A celebration of Maria’s life will be held on Tuesday, December 12, 2023 at 12:00 PM in Whitley’s Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Terry Deitz officiating and his wife Nikki singing. Burial will take place in West Lawn Memorial Park.
