Obituary: Kannapolis, NC- Erie Wilson Horne, age 79, passed away unexpectedly due to an automobile accident on Sunday, March 26, 2017 while traveling in Georgia. He was born January 14, 1938 in Union County, NC, the son of the late Atlas Horne and Ruby Curlee Horne. Will was retired after forty-six years of service at the former Cannon Mills Company, in Kannapolis, NC, Plant One, as a dispatcher much of that time. He was also a veteran of the US Army having served during the Vietnam Conflict. His family remembers his love of fishing, going to the beach, and finding the best restaurants. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a first wife, Priscilla Medlin Horne; an infant son from their marriage, Randall Lynn Horne; a second wife, Carolyn Myers Horne; a sister, Marie Horne; two brothers, Atlas and Nelson Horne; a step-daughter, June Ballew Isaman; and a granddaughter, Amanda Leigh Johnson. A graveside service to celebrate his life will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Sy Ponds. Burial will include military rites conducted by the Cabarrus County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM Tuesday at Whitley's Funeral Home prior to going to the graveside. Survivors include four step-children, Susan Thomason Laraway of Mocksville, NC; Vernal Ballew, Jr. of Southmont, NC; Curtis Ballew of Lexington, NC; and DeAnna Brandon of Salisbury, NC; his brothers, Albert Horne of Kannapolis, NC; Joe Horne of Salisbury, NC; sister, Lois Rebecca Boone of Landis, NC; nine grandchildren; and thirteen grandchildren.
