Obituary: China Grove, NC- Ernest Ray Kerley, age 74, of 111 Constance Court, entered into the hands of the Lord on Thursday, August 20, 2009 at Presbyterian Hospital, Charlotte, NC after two years of declining health & seriously ill for one month. He was born December 11, 1934 in Cabarrus County, NC, the son of the late Mack Baxter Kerley and Cozie Ree Wagoner Kerley. He was employed with the former Cardell Carter Pontiac Buick Company in Kannapolis, NC & was service manager with the former Jim Simmons dealership. He was also owner & operator of Kerley's Garage in Kannapolis, NC for ten years. He was a member of Genesis Baptist Church, China Grove, NC. He was also a member of the Allen-Graham Masonic Lodge # 695 and Oasis Shrine Temple. He enjoyed gardening & had a special love for his family. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a grandson, Blake Kerley. The funeral service will be 3:00 P.M. Sunday, August 23, 2009 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Gene Edwards and Scott White. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park, China Grove, NC. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 3:00 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home prior to the service. Survivors include his wife of 50 years whom he married on August 20, 1959, Vickie Woodard Kerley; his son, Scott R. Kerley of China Grove, NC; one granddaughter, Lindsey Kerley; his sister, Maxine Broadway of Kannapolis, NC; and a number of nieces & nephews.
