Ernest Eugene Parker

Ernest Eugene Parker, 85, of Concord, passed away on Sunday, February 9, 2025, at S. Mitchell Mack Hospice House in Mooresville. He was born September 9, 1939, to the late Charlie and Pauline Walter Parker.

Ernest was married to his loving wife, Vera for over 64 years. Ernest served his country in the United States Army from 1957 to 1960. Ernest worked as an electrical technician at Cannon Mills then as a R&D technician with Celanese for over 23 years before retiring in 1996. Ernest was an enthusiast for the outdoors. He loved hunting, fishing and most of all gardening. He taught his children and grandchildren all the aspects of gardening. He enjoyed having all the family together when it was gardening season. Between spring and fall he enjoyed the most by going to the family property in Norwood, NC along the Rocky River. The family and friends spent many weekends camping, fishing and just enjoying all the family time together. Ernest loved his grandchildren and especially his great grandchildren. They always put a smile on his face. They all were special in some way to him. He will be truly missed by all.

Ernest was preceded in death by his parents and two sons, Ernest Eugene Parker Jr. and Darrell Wayne Parker.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Vera Parker; his two daughters, Dianne Rice (Daniel) and Janet Hailey (Harold); his grandchildren, Jessica Rice, Chris Parker, Jamie Nunn, Edward Hailey (Sarah) and Julie Neitzel; his great grandchildren, Paytene Rice, Charlie Simpson, Henry Hailey, Wyatt Hailey, Hudson Neitzel and Hayes Neitzel; other relatives and friends.

Visitation for Ernest will be Saturday, February 15, 2025, at Whitley’s Funeral Home from 12:00 PM noon until the time of service. A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 PM in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Steve Kramm officiating. Burial with military honors will be at Carolina Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hospice & Palliative Care of Iredell County or Shriner’s Hospital.
