Ernestine Basinger

Obituary: Lois Ernestine "Tiney" Eddings Basinger, 90, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 22, 2014. She was born April 14, 1924 in Jackson County, the daughter of the late Ernest Edward Eddings and Hattie Frances Davis Eddings. She married Marshall Jack Basinger on May 19, 1943 and had 5 children. She was employed in the set department at Cannon Mills. She also worked for Kannapolis City Schools as the "cookie lady" at Jackson Park Elemetary School and later as a substitute teacher until she retired. She joined the North Kannapolis Pilgrim Holiness Church, which later became the North Kannapolis Wesleyan Church, as a teenager and was active throughout her years with children and youth, including teaching Sunday school for nearly 50 years. Tiney was always faithful in attendance in the church and showed love and support for people in and out of the church. She enjoyed handicrafts, like crochet and quilting. She donated quilts to the Kluttz kin reunion as well as making sure all the children and grandchildren had their own quilt. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marshall Jack Basinger, her son, John Joseph Basinger, brothers Julius Clinton "JC" Eddings and Horace Monroe Eddings, sisters Geraldine Wentz and Bobby Sue Goodwin. She is survived by her sisters, Nora Faye Lindholm and Betty Jo Poteat both of Kannapolis, her children Judy Heath of Castle Hayne, Martha Sessoms of New London, Robin Basinger of Wilmington and Andy Basinger of Salisbury, 6 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, July 26, 2014 at North Kannapolis Wesleyan Church officiated by Revs. Steven Cline, Trent Patterson, Charles McHargue and Steve Beam. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Friday at Whitley's Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to North Kannapolis Wesleyan Church, 314 W 12th St, Kannapolis, NC 28081 and/or Hospice of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081. Visitation: 6:00-8:00 P.M., Friday July 25, 2014 Whitley's Funeral Home.

Service: 1:00 P.M., Saturday July 26, 2014 North Kannapolis Wesleyan Church.

Interment: Carolina Memorial Park.
