Ernest “Paul” Brown Sr., 85, of Kannapolis, passed away Friday morning, March 24, 2023, at his home.
Born March 24, 1938, in Wilkes County, Paul was a son of the late William Clarence and Dossie Collins Brown. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by several siblings.
Mr. Brown proudly served his country as a Staff Sergeant with the United States Air Force. Following his honorable military service, he worked in the construction business, owned Paul Brown Trucking and ran a shrimp boat. Paul was a gifted guitarist, writer, and singer. While living in Nashville, Tennessee he played with Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson and Johnny Cash. Shortly thereafter, Paul accepted the Lord and his music interests shifted from country to gospel. He started and performed with the gospel group - The Paul Brown Singers. He founded, built, and pastored Damascus Road Church in Leland, NC. Mr. Brown also enjoyed bee keeping, raising American Singer canaries, finches and cockatiels. A man of many talents and gifts, he will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew and loved him.
Those left with cherished memories include his devoted companion of 35 years, Lynda Vaughn; his son, Paul Brown, Jr; his daughter, Paula Dawn Brown; his sister, Alene Luffman; his grandchildren, Katelyn Juarez (Trey), Gabriel George, Ashley Brown and Kyra Brown; his great-granddaughters, Kendalynn and Zora and his great-grandson, Gabriel; many loved nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Services and burial will be private.
The family would like to thank Dr. Ramesh Patel, Dr. Robert Roycroft and Dr. Paul Rosenburg, for the care, concern, love and professionalism given to Mr. Brown.
In lieu of flowers and to honor his cancer-surviving granddaughter, Gabriel George, gifts and donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Way, Memphis, TN 38108.
