Esther Lenora (Haynes) Belk

Esther Lenora Haynes Belk, 92, affectionately known as “Cooter”, passed away Monday, December 6, 2021 at home surrounded by her loving family and devoted husband of 72 years; Reece “Pete” Belk.

She was born July 7, 1929 in Fulton County, Ga. to the late James and Ethel Wentz Haynes. She was also preceded in death by a son, Terry Belk and brothers and sisters.

She married the love of her life, Pete Belk on September 10, 1949 and together they raised two boys, Ricky and Terry Belk.

She spent her working years at Fieldcrest-Cannon in the washcloth department.

After retirement she devoted her life to help raise her great-grandson, Patrick Belk, and be a constant source of support to her boys, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She gave herself selflessly to everyone, always lending a helping hand; but most importantly she would always remember you in her prayers.

She was a devoted servant of Jesus and was a member of Lakewood Baptist Church for over 80 years.

Her sense of fashion; a good pocketbook and her love for Belk will always be remembered by “her girls”. Her love for her family and friends is a true testimony for all.

Funeral services for Esther will be held 2:00 P.M. Sunday, December 12, 2021 at Whitley’s Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. Steve Leigh. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday, December 11, 2021 from 4:00 P.M.-6:00 P.M.

Family members left to cherish her memory include her husband, Reece “Pete” Belk of the home, son Ricky Belk of Lexington, grandchildren; Dana Belk of Concord, Carrie and Ryan Brotherton of China Grove and Charlie Belk of France. Great grandchildren include Patrick and Kristen Belk of Kannapolis, Leah Canterbury of Ohio, Tay Brotherton of Salisbury, Evan Brotherton of China Grove and great-great grandson, Sawyer Brotherton of Salisbury; as well as an honorary granddaughter Erika Galloway of Concord.

In Lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 3800 Shamrock Dr, Charlotte, NC 28215 in honor of her devoted love and compassion that she gave her husband.
