Ethel Helms Broome

Obituary: Broome, Ethel Athaleen Helms (Ethel) Kannapolis, NC- Ethel Athaleen Helms Broome, age 85, died Wednesday, October 13, 2010 at the Bob & Carolyn Tucker House, Kannapolis, NC after two years of declining health. She was born June 1, 1925 in Union County, NC, the daughter of the late William Oscar Helms and Lillie Asbury Helms. Ethel was employed with the former Cannon Mills Company Plt.#1 Wash Cloth Dept. for 35 years until her retirement in 1987. She was a member of Franklin Heights Baptist Church, Kannapolis, NC. Her family fondly remembers her love of cooking and tending to her dogs. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Troy Broome, Sr. who died November 4, 2008. They were married for 67 years. Also, her daughter, Linda Rufty who died October 3, 2001; a granddaughter, Heather Michelle Peeler who died October 7, 1985; and a daughter-in-law, Sherry Barnhardt Dalton. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 18, 2010 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Jim Grigg. A graveside service will follow at 2:00 P.M. Monday at Lakeland Memorial Park, Monroe, NC. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. Sunday, October 17, 2010 to at the funeral home. Survivors include her son, Troy Broome, Jr. of Kannapolis, NC; Crystal Mason & husband, Robert of Greenville, SC; grandchildren, Mark Dalton, Kandy Horne & husband, Robert, Patricia Dalton, Kimberly Helms, and Robin Broome Hall, all of China Grove, NC, and Angela Barnes of Greenville, SC; ten great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren.
