Ethel Davis Comer

Obituary: Ethel Davis Comer, 96 of China Grove, passed away Friday, December 28, 2018 at her home after a period of declining heath. Her funeral will be held at 2:30pm Tuesday, January 1, 2019 at Grace Lutheran Church in Salisbury with Pastor Jerome Cloninger officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Her family will receive friends 1-2pm Tuesday in the church narthex. Ethel was born June 15, 1922 in Rowan County, a daughter of the late William B. and Georgia Barnhardt Davis. She was a lifelong area resident and lifelong member of Grace Lutheran Church, where she taught children's Sunday school. Ethel worked in the China Grove mills as a spinner, retiring in 1987. She loved the outdoors and had a "green thumb", loving to grow her garden, cut wood and maintain her flowerbeds. She quilted, crocheted and sewed beautifully. She was a great conversationalist with an exceptional memory and a wonderful sense of humor. She will be dearly missed. In addition to her parents Ethel was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Dennis M. Comer, who died in 1992. She was also preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers. She is survived by her daughter, Kittie McLaughlin (Michael) of Mooresville, her son, Lewis Comer (Adelta) of China Grove, six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, and many loving nieces and nephews.
