Ethel Sorah Johnson

Obituary: China Grove: Ethel Sorah Johnson, age 94 of 195 Fry St. died on Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2009 at NorthEast Medical Center. Born August 3, 1915 at Big Stone Gap, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late George Alexander and Amanda Catherine Sorah. She attended school in Big Stone Gap and after marriage moved and lived most of her adult life in the Kannapolis area. She enjoyed working with her hands, crochet work, cooking and singing. She was a member and sang in the choir at Lakewood Baptist Church in Kannapolis. She loved working with the children and teaching their Sunday school classes. She received several rewards for her activity in the church. For her last few years, she attended Memorial United Methodist Church in Kannapolis with her immediate family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers and four sisters. Survivors include her husband Carl S. Johnson, her son Douglas Johnson and wife Susie of China Grove, her grandson Ronald and wife Debra Johnson of Kannapolis, and two great grand children Caroline and Jacob Johnson and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2:00 PM Friday Jan. 1, 2010 at Memorial United Methodist Church with her service to follow at 2:00 PM officiated by Rev. Jim Brookshire. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park, China Grove. At other times, the family will be at her son's home, 180 Sloop St. China Grove.
