Obituary: Mrs. Eunice "Necie" Safrit Fisher, 81, passed away on Sunday, November 29, 2009 after a lengthy battle with lung cancer. She went to be with the Lord at home with her family by her side. Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 1, 2009 at Memorial United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Jim Brookshire. Interment will follow in Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Whitley's Funeral Home Monday, November 30, from 6-8 P.M. At other times they will be at the residence. She was born April 6, 1928 in Salisbury to the late Homer and Roxie Safrit. They moved to Kannapolis on December 7, 1941(Pearl Harbor Day) where she graduated from J.W. Cannon High School in 1945. Necie married Joe Reid Fisher from Concord in 1948. They would have celebrated 61 years of marriage on December 11th. She retired from Cannon Mills Order Data Processing Dept. in 1985 after 35 years of service. Necie was a charter member of Memorial United Methodist Church and sang in the choir for almost sixty years. She served her church as a Sunday School teacher, a member of the Women's Society and Administrative Council. She is survived by her devoted husband: Joe Fisher, and three daughters, Christy Cheverton and husband Rick of Knoxville, Tenn., Susan Basinger and husband Ricky of Salisbury, and Jo Carol McGill of Asheville. Four granddaughters: Necie Ann Russell and husband Adam, Roxie Deloney and husband Adam, Lacey Cheverton and Tess McGill. Three grandsons: Lee Basinger and wife Cole, Luke and Heath Cherverton and one great-grandson; Caden Cheverton. Two sisters: Ginny Russell, wife of the late Jim Russell, Maryland Barts and husband "Son" and brother Henry Safrit and wife Jewel, along with numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, preceding her in death were brothers: Ernie Safrit, Walter Safrit and Clarence Safrit along with one sister, "Deenie" Sherman. Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081 or to Memorial United Methodist Church, 1100 West C Street, Kannapolis, NC 28081.( The Fisher family would like to thank both for all their love and care) Whitley's Funeral Home is serving the family of Mrs. Fisher.
