Obituary: Eva King Childers, 98, of Kannapolis went to be with the Lord on Monday, December 9, 2013. She was afflicted with Alzheimer's four years ago and eventually had to be placed in long term care at Magnolia Gardens, Spencer. Eva was born March 22, 1915, in Mecklenburg Co., the youngest daughter of twelve children of the late Lonnie Benson King and Sara Elizabeth Hartis King. Eva was raised in Indian Trail and was employed at Cannon Mills Plt. #1, sewing room for over 40 years prior to retirement. She was a member of Franklin Heights Baptist Church where she was a member of the church choir. Following her declining health she enjoyed watching evangelists on television. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, David Rex Childers who died January 28, 1991 and one grandson, Douglas Redwine. Survivors include her son, Barry W. Childers and wife Glenda of Kannapolis, one daughter, Sharon Livengood and husband Bill of Salisbury; three grandchildren: Rhonda Brigman and husband Todd of Kannapolis, Marc Childers and wife Kathie of Jacksonville, Florida and Tammy Lemmons of Salisbury; three great-grandchildren: Emily and Marcus Childers and Stephanie Lemmons. Also surviving are a half-brother, Joe King of Monroe, two half-sisters, Ruby Sullivan of Burlington and Myrtle Moree of Pageland, S.C., two step great- grandchildren, Jeremy and Kaylie Wike. Eva is also survived by a special friend, J.C. Sellers of Kannapolis. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Friday, December 13, 2013 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. Steve Holshouser. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. At other times they will at the residence of the son, Barry Childers of Kannapolis.
