Eva Childress Jenkins

Obituary: Kannapolis, NC- Eva Lucille Brown Childress Jenkins, age 94, died Friday, January 22, 2010 at Big Elm Nursing Center, Kannapolis, NC after a brief illness. She was born October 30, 1915 in Mecklenburg County, NC, the daughter of the late Thomas E. Brown and Zifferiah Honeycutt Brown. She was employed in the textile industry for over 20 years. She was also training to be a nurse early in her career. In earlier years she was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church, Davidson, NC and later transferred to North Kannapolis United Methodist Church, Kannapolis, NC. She enjoyed working with flowers, reading the Bible, and working word search puzzles as special interests in her life. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her 1st husband, James Andrew Childress who died August 1, 1998 and one sister, Ila Brack. The funeral service will be 2:00 P.M. Monday, January 25, 2010 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Roger Bostic. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park, China Grove, NC. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Sunday, January 24, 2010 at the funeral home. Survivors include her 2nd husband, Glenn Edward Jenkins of the home; two daughters, Delores Childress Roten & husband, Henry of Kannapolis, NC, Joyce Childress Stilwell of Landis, NC; one son, Jimmy Dale Childress & wife, Ginger of Cornelius, NC; two step-children, Coyte Jenkins & wife, Kathy of Kannapolis, NC and Phyllis Marlow of China Grove, NC; and five generations including 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren.
