It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Evelyn Norma Laidlaw, age 97, on March 26, 2025, in Kannapolis, North Carolina. Evelyn was born on September 9, 1927, and spent her life as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. Above all, she was devoted to her family. Evelyn's greatest joy came from being surrounded by her loved ones, and her heart was always full of love for them.
Evelyn was an independent woman who took great pride in her home and yard. She loved keeping her yard tidy, often spending time outdoors to maintain it just the way she liked it. Her strength, independence, and attention to detail were evident in everything she did, from her daily routine to the love she poured into her family.
Evelyn was a devoted member of Risen Life Church, where she found strength, comfort, and fellowship throughout her life. Her faith was an essential part of who she was, and she leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion that will continue to inspire all who knew her.
Evelyn loved to travel and experienced many adventures throughout her life. She went on numerous Christian bus tours, visiting states across the country. She would proudly display a magnet on her refrigerator from every state she visited, a testament to her love for exploring new places and creating memories. But no matter where she traveled, it was her family that was always closest to her heart.
Evelyn was preceded in death by two husbands, Rosel Ritchie and James Laidlaw; her two sons, Eric Laidlaw and Mike Ritchie; and her sisters, Martha Goodnight and Rachel Linker. She is survived by her son, Aaron Laidlaw (Diane); her grandchildren, Karen Ritchie, Michael Ritchie Jr. (Connie), Chris Laidlaw (Amy), and David Barnhardt (Brooke); her great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Ritchie, Jacob Ritchie, Karmyn Barnhardt, Jackson Laidlaw, and Aiden Laidlaw; and her two sisters, Judy Gibson and Coleen Kerr (Bob). Evelyn’s family was everything to her, and her love for them was boundless. Her laughter, wisdom, and gentle spirit will live on in their hearts.
A service to celebrate Evelyn’s life will be held on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Risen Life Church, located in Kannapolis, NC. Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM, and friends and family are invited to join in honoring Evelyn’s legacy and saying their final goodbyes.
