Obituary: Evelyn Griffin Robbins, 80, of 1265 Pump Station Road died on Friday, January 7, 2011 at her home. Mrs. Robbins was born in Cabarrus Co. on January 18, 1930 the daughter of Minor Griffin and Tamia Smith Griffin.In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husbands, Robert William "Bob" Gilliam and Lacy E. Robbins, Jr. and eleven brothers and sisters. A lifelong resident of this area, Evelyn retired in 1992 as a time keeper with Cannon Mills Co.; was a Member of Memorial United Meth. Church where she was a church volunteer, a faithful member of the Morning Prayer Team; an active member of the Alma-Price Circle and Hefner-Nease Circle and was a faithful member of the Harrison Sunday School Class. She was a volunteer with NorthEast Medical Center; a member of the Ladies Auxiliary V.F.W. Lodge # 8989 and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Kannapolis Moose Lodge.She enjoyed fishing and an occasional ride on her son's Harley Davidson. Survivors include her sons, Ron Beaver and wife, Vanessa of Kannapolis and Boyd Beaver of Palm Bay, FL and her daughter, Joyce B. Phillips of Kannapolis.Her step-son, Lacy E. Robbins, III of Kannapolis, and by 3 grandchildren; Robert Beaver, Jeffrey Fox and Jonathan Fox and 2 great-grandchildren; Maddie Fox and Aubrie Fox. She is also survived by her brother, James F. Griffin of Norfolk, VA; a number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends. The service for Mrs. Robbins will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2011 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. Jim Brookshire.Burial will take place at Carolina Memorial Park.The family will receive friend's from12-2:30, Wednesday at Whitley's Funeral Home before the service.At other times the family will be at the residence.
