Obituary: Evelyn Dianne Batchelor Rogers, age 67, of Wilmington died March 26, 2012 at 5 Oaks Manor in Concord after a period of declining health. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, March 29 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses 820 Hurley School Rd. in Salisbury with Wally Foster as the speaker. The family will receive friends at the Kingdom Hall after the service, at other times the family will be at 425 Sloop St. in China Grove at the home of daughter, Amy Raffaldt. Evelyn was born August 27, 1944 in Columbus MS., a daughter of the late George Russell Batchelor and Ms. Alice Elizabeth Cooper Batchelor of Wilmington. Evelyn was a longtime area resident of Wilmington after raising her 4 children by herself, she went to college at Cape Fear Comm. College and then went to work for the IRS. She worked for the IRS as a tax-Payers representative for almost 20 years, retiring in 2001. Evelyn was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Wilmington and continued attending the Kingdom Halls in this area with her son and daughter. Evelyn will be remembered as a loving and caring mother and grandmother and will be dearly missed. In addition to her mother she is survived by her sister, Alice Gore and husband, William "Bubba" Gore and her brother, Phillip Batchelor and wife, Donna all of Wilmington. She is also survived by her children, "Woody" Rogers and wife, Hopelyn of Concord, Renee Rogers and Alice Rogers, both of Wilmington, and Amy Raffaldt and husband, Roy of China Grove and her grandchildren Tiffany Rogers, Chris Rogers, Abigail Raffaldt, Jonathan Rogers and Joy Rogers.
