Evelyn Stewart Smith

Obituary: Evelyn Stewart Smith, 78, of Salisbury, died Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2009 at Rowan Regional Medical Center, following several years of declining health and a brief serious illness. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM Monday, Jan. 4, 2010 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel in Kannapolis with Rev. Chris Westmoreland officiating Born Dec. 26, 1931 in Kannapolis,Evelyn was the daughter of the late Claude C. and Ethel Plummer Stewart. She graduated from J.W. CannonHigh School and went on to complete nursing school at Mercy Hospital in Charlotte in 1952.Evelyn helped many babies into this world working in the newborn nurseries at Mercy and Presbyterian Hospitals in Charlotte, retiring in 1991. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Ruth S. Swink and Mildred S. Artz, and one brother, Marvin E. Stewart. Survivors include two sons, Joel L. Smith and wife Julie, and Mark S. Smith, both of Charlotte; and one daughter Pamela S. Price and husband Mike, of Salem, VA. She was a fun-loving Maw-Maw to Jenny and Anne, of Charlotte, and Leslie and Adam, of Salem, VA., and also has one great-grandson, Graham. The family wishes to thank Reid and BonitaCastor for many years of neighborly care, and a very special thank you to Daron and Cathy Stewart, and Dana and Steve Helms for their years of love and support to Aunt Evelyn.
