Evelyn Marie (Ward) White

Evelyn Marie Ward White, 81, passed away Monday evening, July 10, 2023, at Atrium Health Cabarrus, surrounded by her loving family. She is now with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and has reunited with her beloved husband, Charles.

Born November 3, 1941, in Norfolk, VA, she was the daughter of the late Marvin Aubrey Ward and Dorothy Louise Williams Rea.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Ray White; granddaughters, Mandy Swain and Kristen Furr; siblings, Joyce Rea and Albert Ward; and nephew David Rea.

Evelyn always had a special sparkle in her eye. She loved her Lord, her family, her friends, and her community with all of her heart. She was known for helping those in less fortunate situations. Evelyn enjoyed baking and especially loved flat biscuits from her hometown of Edenton NC. A loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to many, Evelyn (often called Mama E. or Mama Evelyn) will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Loving family members include her children, Richard Swain (Sue), Robbin Worobel (John), Sherry Walter, Sabrina Campbell (Jim); her niece Jennifer Whitehurst (Eric); her grandchildren, Megan Swain, Anthony and Timothy Walter; her brother, Robert H. Wiley (Sandra); 6 great grandchildren; a very special great-great niece, Laken Rea, who was the light of her life, and Laken’s parents, Tyler and Ericka Rea. In addition, she had several loved nieces and nephews and extended family members.

Memorial services to remember and celebrate Evelyn’s life will begin at 3:00 pm Friday, July 14th at Whitley’s Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by Anthony Walter and Pastor Mitch Thomas. The family will be available immediately following the service to express your condolences. At all other times, the family will be at the home of Sherry Walter.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Parmer, Dr. Campbell and Dr. Christy and all the healthcare workers at Atrium Health for the care, concern and love given to Mrs. White and her family.

Memorials may be made to Parkinson Association of the Carolinas or the American Heart Association.
