Evelyn Lefler Whitley

Obituary: Evelyn Lefler Whitley, age 82, passed away on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at Five Oaks Manor where she had resided for the last four months. Prior to that time, she and her husband had lived in Supply, NC for the last twenty-four years. They had lived in Concord prior to that time. She was born January 1, 1933 in Cabarrus County, NC, the daughter of the late Andrew Lefler and Ila Burris Lefler. Evelyn was employed with Craftman Hosiery, Concord, NC for many years until retiring due to declining health. She was a charter member of Brunswick Island Baptist Church, Supply, NC in the later years. In prior times she was a past member at Parkwood Baptist Church, Concord, NC where she visited shut-ins and was active in Sunday School. Her family fondly remembers her love of friends and family, li stening to music, and gardening when she was able. In earlier years she really enjoyed visiting flea markets looking for bargains. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, January 16, 2015 at Whitley's funeral Home Main Chapel, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Darrell Coble. A private graveside service will be held later that afternoon at 4:00 PM at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Oakboro, NC. The family will receive friends at the funeral Home from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM Friday at the funeral home. Survivors include her husband of fifty-nine years, Harold E. Whitley; her two daughters, Debbie L. Lowder & husband, Garry of Harrisburg, NC and Michele W. McClellan & husband, Steve of Concord, NC; grandchildren, David Lowder of Concord, NC; Dan McClellan & wife, Mamie of Shelby, NC; John McClellan & wife, Laura of Jefferson City, TN; and one great-granddaughter, Katie McClellan. The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Five Oaks Manor for the loving care that she received by many. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
