Obituary: Mrs. Flora Templeton Sweet, age 96, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on January 30, 2015 at the Tucker House of Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County after a brief illness. The daughter of the late Reverend Raymond and Neta Calloway Templeton of Mooresville, Flora was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Edward Young Sweet, sisters Evelyn Howard and Mildred Cook Dellinger, and in-laws Frances Stikeleather, Millie Sweet, Margaret Simmons and husband Guy, Elmer Howard, Frank Cook, Reverend Worth Sweet and wife Rachel. Mrs. Sweet is survived by son Stephen Y. Sweet and wife Carolyn of Concord, son Gary Sweet of Charlotte, and daughter Ann Walker and husband Neal of Brentwood, Tennessee. Grandchildren are Kevin Walker and wife Deanna of Holly Springs, Jennifer Walker of Brentwood, Tennessee, and great granddaughter Addison Adele Walker of Holly Springs. Other survivors include Calvin Sweet, Alex Stikeleather, Betty Sweet and numerous loving nieces and nephews. Mrs. Sweet assisted her husband and son in the Ed Y. Sweet Income Tax Service for over forty years, taking great pleasure in greeting and helping their clients. Because of her outgoing personality, she made many lifelong friends through her work. She enjoyed traveling with her husband to Canada, Europe, Japan, and also found pleasure in taking day trips throughout the Carolinas. She had a passion for Southern Gospel Music and North Carolina Barbecue, and a true love of flowers, especially roses. As a devoted and caring mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Mrs. Sweet enjoyed her family and had many wonderful times with them. During her active years at First Baptist Church she was a dedicated and loyal member of the Lucy Angels' Sunday School Class. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 3, at First Baptist Church., Kannapolis, NC where she was a long time member. The Celebration of Life Observance led by Dr. Tom Cabaniss will follow at 2:00 p.m. Employees of Ed Y. Sweet Income Tax Service will serve as Honorary Pallbearers. Internment will take place at Glenwood Memorial Park in Mooresville immediately after the service. The family will be at home the remainder of the time.
