Obituary: Florence "Marlene" Overcash Howard, 85, of Kannapolis, died Friday, May 17, 2019 peacefully at her home after a period of decline. Services for Marlene will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, May 20 2019 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Willie Pore officiating. A visitation will be held prior to the service from 10 to 11:00 AM Monday, May 20 2019 at Whitley's Funeral Home. Interment will follow after the service at Carolina Memorial Park. She was born July 23, 1933 in Rowan Co., the daughter of the late James Goodman and Minnie Alma Overcash. Marlene was a graduate of Landis High School and a long time employee of Harris Teeter working as a head cashier and then a book keeper for the student nutrition department at A.L. Brown for a number of years. The students affectionately referred to her as "Grandma". She was a life-long member of Lakewood Baptist Church in Kannapolis. She loved her church. Marlene was a people person; she loved to talk to people and always had a smile on her face. Marlene was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She will be dearly missed. Those left to cherish her memories include her loving husband of 61 years, Wendall Howard of the home, son, Kirk Howard (Carmen) of Concord, grandson, Ashton Howard (Emily) of Charlotte, sister, Sharon Warday (Ron) of Greenville S.C. and her feline friend "Tom".
