Obituary: Kannapolis, NC- Frances Power Collins, age 93, died Thursday, December 22, 2011 at Autumn Care, Salisbury, NC after a lengthy illness.She was born July 23, 1918 in Madison County, Georgia, the daughter of the late Charley Allen Power and Ethel Emma Cooper Power.Frances was employed with the former Cannon Mills Company, Plant #1, Wash Cloth Dept. as an over edger for 45 years until her retirement. After retirement she bought her own over edger machine and did sewing work for many in her family and friends. She is also remembered for her love of cake decorating and traveling especially taking cruises. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, William Howard (Bill) Collins who died March 19, 1993; a daughter, Billie Collins Alphin; a grandson, Doug Howard; a brother, J.D. Power.The funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, December 26, 2011 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Allen Reed. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, NC. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2:00 P.M. Monday at the funeral home prior to the service.Survivors include a daughter, Donna Howard of Mt. Juliet, TN; five grandchildren, Alesia Alphin, Wendy Jones, Wendell Alphin, Kim Bradley, and Tammy Howard; seven great-grandchildren, Danielle Jones, Raney Jones, Tyler Jones, Owen Alphin, Blake Alphin, Dulce Alphin, and Luke Bradley; and four sisters, Elizabeth Watkins, Betty Jo Troutman, Mildred ( Mickey) Watts, and Virginia Shuping; and a brother, David Power.Memorials may be made to Central Baptist Church, 1812 Moose Road, Kannapolis, NC 28083.On-line condolences may be left at www.whitleysfuneralhome.com.
