Frances Varner Godfrey, 89, of Kannapolis, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 31st at Tucker Hospice House in Kannapolis with her family in attendance.
Born December 20th, 1929 in Davidson County, she was a daughter of the late Matthew McKinley Varner and Vertie Castor Varner. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Earl Godfrey and her brother, James McKinley Varner. Frances is survived by one sister, Eunice Varner Cook and two sisters-in-law, Betty Varner and Josie Pope. She was an aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Frances was a graduate of J.W. Cannon High School in Kannapolis. She retired after 25 years of employment in the Window Treatment Division at Allison-Erwin Company in Charlotte. She was a charter and very active member of Memorial Baptist Church in Kannapolis.
A memorial service to celebrate and remember Mrs. Godfrey’s life will begin at 1pm on Saturday, November 9th in the chapel at Whitley’s Funeral Home on Dale Earnhardt Blvd. in Kannapolis. The service will be conducted by Pastor Edward Scott and her nephew, Pastor David Troutman.
Mrs. Godfrey will be laid to rest with her husband at Carolina Memorial Park in Concord.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes memorials to be made to the Tucker Hospice House, 5005 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
