Obituary: Frances Melton Martin, 96, passed away Monday morning, May 21, 2018, at Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House, following a period of declining health. Born July 9, 1921 in Stanly County, she was a daughter of the late John David and Mary Anna Allen Melton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Roger Martin; her sisters, Mary Kiser, Rosa Fink and Ada Goodman; and a grandson, Jeffery F. Gray. Mrs. Martin was a loving and devoted homemaker, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. A longtime, faithful member of West Point Baptist Church, she had taken care of the nursery for more than 32 years. Frances loved all of her family and her cat, "Miss Hope". She enjoyed time in her backyard swing and flowers. Family members include her children, Judy Keever (Wade), Janet Lee (Tobey), Myra Thompson (Mel), John Martin (Malavanh) and Debbie Joines (Ron); 11 grandchildren, 17 Great grandchildren, with one due in July; and 4 great-great grandchildren. Also, special, much loved neighbors, Gail and Roy Smothers, and Albert Culvert and the late Brenda Culvert. The family will receive friends from 12:30-2:00 pm Thursday, May 24, 2018, at West Point Baptist Church. Services to remember and celebrate Mrs. Martin's life will begin at 2:00 pm in the church, conducted by Pastor Leon Waddell. Mrs. Martin will be laid to rest with her husband at Carolina Memorial Park.
