Frances Goodnight Mccorkle

Obituary: Frances Goodnight McCorkle, 83, of the Odell Community in Concord, died Thursday, May 17, 2012 at 5 Oaks Nursing Center in Concord after a period of declining health. A Graveside service will be held at 4:30 PM Sunday, May 20 at Coddle Creek ARP Church Cemetery with Rev. James Hunt officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 2:30 to 4:30 PM on Sunday, at other times the family will be at 9600 Davidson Hwy, Concord. Frances was born March 19, 1929, in Cabarrus Co., a daughter of the late William O. and Mabel Johnston Goodnight. She was a lifelong area resident and member of Coddle Creek ARP Church. She graduated from Odell High School. In earlier years Frances worked for Cannon Mills as a secretary, later she worked for Davidson College, in the office of the Registrar until retiring in 1990. Frances will be remembered for her love of Square Dancing and all the dances she went to with her husband, J.D. McCorkle, who preceded her in death in 1998. She loved her grand children and was devoted to her family and will be dearly missed. In addition to her parents and husband; Frances was preceded in death by her brothers; Harvey and Fidel Goodnight and her sisters; Peggy Myers and Isabel Goodnight. Frances is survived by her daughters; Ann M. Riley of Mooresville and Lynn M. Graham (Mike) of Boone. She is also survived by her grandchildren; Page Graham, Witt Graham, Debra Jenkins and Kim Glass, and by 7 great-grandchildren.
