Francis Miles (Pete) Hudson

Obituary: Francis Miles (Pete) Hudson, age 88, died Tuesday, November 23, 2010 at the Bob & Carolyn Tucker Hospice House, Kannapolis, NC. He was born December 14, 1921 in Scotland County, NC, the son of the late Curtis David Hudson and Alice Gertrude Pittman Hudson. He graduated from J.W. Cannon High School in 1941. Pete was owner/operator of the former Rowan Grill on North Cannon Blvd. in Kannapolis, NC for 39 years. He was an avid athlete enjoying swimming, water skiing, bass fishing, and fast pitch softball. In 1960 "The Rowan Grill Team" that Pete sponsored and played with, were the Southern Piedmont Champs and the City League Champs. His family fondly remembers his love for the outdoors and going to the beach. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during World War II in the South Pacific. His decoration of medals included the American Theater Campaign, the Asiatic Theater with one Bronze Service Star, the Philippines Liberation Ribbon, and the Good Conduct and World War II Victory Medal. He was also a life member of the V.F.W. Poston-Perkins Post 8989 In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a grandson, Matthew Charles Hudson; a sister, Juanita H. Johnston; and three brothers, Curtis, Jim, and Johnny Hudson. The funeral service will be 2:00 P.M. Friday, November 26, 2010 at Whitley's Funeral Home Annex Chapel, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Gene Frady and Rev. Leon Simmons. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, NC with military rites conducted by the Cabarrus County Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home prior to the service. Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years years, Geraldine Lambert Hudson; Five children, Phil Hudson & wife, Jill of China Grove, NC, Paul Craig Hudson of Cornelius, NC, Starr H. Coley of Myrtle Beach, SC, Gil Hudson & wife, Bobbie of Cornelius, NC, and Jan H. Bryant & husband, David of Sherrills Ford, NC; Ten grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter; And one sister, Margaret H. Sloop & husband, Hoyt of Kannapolis, NC In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials may be made to Hospice & palliative Care of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
