Obituary: Franklin A. Alley, 90, of Kannapolis passed away on October 31, 2015. He was born September 19, 1925 in Iredell County, the son of the late Clyde Avery Alley and Mary Belle Whitener Alley. He was preceded in death by his wife, Allie Murphy Alley and sisters, Clyde Gaye McClure, Josephine Carolyn Ruby and Mary Eugenia Ridings. Mr. Alley was the former owner of Wayside Furniture in Kannapolis and also worked at the former Montgomery Wards in Kannapolis. He was a graduate of Lenoir Rhyne College. Mr. Alley was a disabled veteran serving in the US Army during WW II, earning four bronze stars, a Good Conduct medal and the Purple Heart, among other awards. He was a member of St. John's Reformed Church. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2015 at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove with military honors. He is survived by a son, Franklin Clyde Alley (Marla), two grandchildren, Derek Franklin Alley, Jordan Alley Zavala (J.J.), 6 nieces and nephews, two great nieces and 1 great nephew.
