Franklin (Shorty) Combs

Obituary: Franklin D. "Shorty" Combs, 84, of Kannapolis passed away on April 18, 2018 at his home. He was born March 26, 1934 in Cabarrus County, a son of the late William McKinley Combs and Esther Authurs Combs. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Alice Fields Combs, daughter, Betty Dean Combs, son, Dawayne Combs and a granddaughter, Mary Elizabeth Lisenby. Shorty had formerly worked at the Donut Dinette, Cannon Mills and was produce manager for the former StopnShops in the area. He attended Jackson Park Pentecostal Holiness Church. Shorty loved gardening and cooking, especially making pies for people. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Friday, April 20, 2018 at Whitley's Funeral Home (Main Building) with a funeral service to be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, April 21, 2018 at Whitley's Funeral Home Annex Chapel officiated by Revs. Ed Burns and Jimmy Barnhill. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. Shorty is survived by daughter, Dale Combs Jones (Morris "Moses"), son, David Franklin Combs (Vickie), grandchildren, Amanda Duplisea (Chris), Daniel Combs (Kayley), Matthew Lisenby (Kody), T.J. Allman, Casey Combs, Hunter Combs, great grandchildren, Ethan and William Lisenby, Megan and Caden Duplisea, Avery and Ella Combs, great great grandchildren, Aubrey and Caleb Brewer, two sisters, Rachel Reece and Kathleen McCurdy. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
Visitation: 6:00-8:00 P.M. Friday April 20, 2018 Whitley's Funeral Home Main Building

Service: 11:00 A.M. Saturday April 21, 2018 Whitley's Funeral Home Annex Chapel

Interment: Carolina Memorial Park Kannapolis, N.C.
