Obituary: Franklin Deaton, known to friends as "Frank", was born in Erwin TN, on July 25, 1933 and passed away in Concord, on June 3, 2018 at the age of 84. Frank leaves behind his loving wife of 65 years, Peggy, and his children, Angela (Todd) Meltzner and Steven (Ashlie) Deaton. He will also be missed by his four grandchildren, Hannah, Rachel, Elijah and Joshua, by his devoted nephew, Tim (Evelyn) Coffee and many other extended family members and loved ones. Son of Harvey and Pansy Deaton, Frank was one of 11 children. He was preceded in death by Linda, Willard, Phillip, Lorain, Carmon, Betty Jo, Billy, and Frank's twin sister, Frances. Surviving siblings are Bo Deaton and Vonnie Banner. Frank served in the US Army during the Korean War, after which he attended the University of Tennessee and remained an avid Vols fan all his life. He began his mechanical engineering career at the Atomic Energy Commission in Oak Ridge TN, and went on to do work worldwide at IBM for 27 years, retiring in July 1992. Frank is beloved by many for his active involvement in many churches of Christ, serving as a song leader, deacon, elder and designer of numerous church buildings through the years. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, June 6 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel with James Peterman officiating. Burial will follow at Carolina memorial Park with military rites conducted by the NC National Guard.
