Obituary: - Franklin Marion Hunter, age 77, passed away peacefully at his home as he requested on Saturday, October 16, 2010. He was born November 4, 1932 in Chesterfield County, SC, the son of the late Joe Hunter and Laney Tucker Hunter. Frank worked a number of years at Kerr Bleachery in Concord and worked 17 years retiring from S & D Coffee in Concord. Frank enjoyed socialization with his many friends and customers in his lawn mower repair shop for 52 years. His special pastimes were Karting, NASCAR racing, gardening and Atlanta Braves baseball. He was a member of the Baptist faith. His large heart and hands were ready to give to those in need. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by two sisters; three brothers, and three half-brothers. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, October 19, 2010 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Richard Rhoades. Entombment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park Plaza Mausoleum, Kannapolis, NC. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Monday, October 18, 2010 at Whitley's Funeral Home. Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Mary Pethel Hix Hunter; a son, Richard Hunter & wife, Roxanne of Concord, NC; A granddaughter, Tara Leigh Hunter of Charlotte, NC and a grandson, Alan Franklin Hunter of Concord, NC; Also a step-daughter, Mary Jo Snipes of Kannapolis, NC; and a step-son, Mike Hix of Columbia, SC; Four additional grandchildren, Lauren Holland of Southern Pines, NC, Bryan Snipes of Charlotte, NC, Joel Snipes of Matthews, NC, and Rebecca Foley of San Diego, CA; Five great-grandchildren, Gill, Henry and Bennett Holland, Blaine Snipes; and Diana Foley, A sister, Mary Ellen Tanner of Fayetteville, NC; and a number of caring and attentive nephews and nieces. The family of Mr. Hunter would like to extend their sincere appreciation to Dr. David Chad Weston and his staff for the care provided for the past 18 years and especially during the last 6 weeks. Heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the members of the Hospice team that helped to care for Mr. Hunter in his home, and to Mr. Jimmy Auten and Pastor Rhoades.
