Franklin Lee Linker

Obituary: Mr. Franklin Lee Linker, 64 died Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at CMC-Northeast. He had been in declining health for the last five years. He was born February 25, 1947 in Cabarrus County, NC son of the late William Lee and Jonsie Bell Robinson Linker. He was a graduate of Winecoff School in Kannapolis and later served with the US Navy Seabees' in Vietnam. For 35 years he was employed with Trimco as a mechanical engineer and was a HVAC instructor for Rowan Cabarrus Community College, retiring after 33 years of service. He loved to go to the beach, especially the outer banks, and fish. His hobbies included fishing, computers and astronomy. Franklin was a member of the Astronomical Society of Rowan County. Funeral services will be 4:00 P.M. Friday, March 11, 2011 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel conducted by Rev. Robert Howard. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. At other times they will be at the residence. He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Hazel Sharon Linker, three daughters, Margaret Ann Vandenburg of Mt. Pleasant, Beverly Carol Pender of Kannapolis and Elizabeth Star Love of Millingport. Also survived by two sons, James Glenn Pender, Jr.and William Eugene Pender both of Lincolnton. Grandchildren include Joseph Aaron Plummer of Concord, John Adam Baltimore of Concord, Brittany Nicole Pender, and Olyvia Mae Love, Walker Alan Love of Millingport, Justin Glenn Pender and Graycen Elizabeth Pender , Carl Nicholas Rice and Allison Dayle Rice, all of Lincolnton. A sister, Becky Giddings of Concord and two nephews: Larry Giddings and Jeffrey Giddings both of Mt. Pleasant also survive. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by a great grandchild: Bethany Grace Baltimore on August 13, 2008. The family asks that in lie of flowers memorials be made to the Shriner's Children's Hospitals, Shriners Hospitals for Children, International Headquarters, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL. 33607.
