Obituary: Franklin Roosevelt Mills, 80, of Kannapolis went to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 23, 2013 at Liberty Commons Nursing and Rehabilitation, Salisbury. Death was unexpected. He was born March 9, 1933 in Union County, NC son of the late Walter and Effie Jordan Mills. He was also preceded in death by a son, Linny Ted Mills on Oct. 20, 2005 and two grandchildren, Luke and Grace Mills. Franklin was employed at Cannon Mills Plant #1 as a fixer, retiring with 50 years of service. He was a member of Ben Avenue Free Will Baptist Church and was an honorary member of the Advisory Board of the Church. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, November 26,, 2013 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. Don Draughn and Rev. Ronnie Cooper. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00 Noon until 1:00 P.M. prior to the service. At other times they will be at the residence. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Vivion Jean Plyler Mills of the home, one daughter, Mary Jo Anne Mills Sechler of Kannapolis, two sons, Jeffrey Ray Mills and fiancé Linda Gentry of Marshville, Craig Mills and wife Suzanne of Monroe, one brother, Heath Mills and wife Bessie Lee and one sister, Lavenia Horne both of Kannapolis.
