Fred Dwight Barbee, 78, of Concord went to be with the Lord on Friday, August 06, 2021 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He had been in declining health.
Fred was born June 11, 1943 in Cabarrus County, NC a son of the late John Ralph and Margaret Whitley Barbee.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years; Linda Gail Brown Barbee who died July 28, 2021 along with a daughter, Deanna Leigh Barbee who died in 1970 and a sister Vickie Barbee Benton.
Fred was a lifelong member of Shiloh United Methodist Church. He had retired from the US Postal Service. He also was a member of Stump Town Tractor Club. He collected tractors; from full size to models to puzzles. He loved being with his grandchildren. He was a Veteran of the US Army serving during the Vietnam Era.
Funeral services to celebrate Fred’s life will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, August 8, 2021 at Shiloh United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Gary Sowell and John Gordon. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the US Army. The family will receive friends at Whitley’s Funeral Home Saturday, August 7, 2021 from 6:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M. At other times they will be at the residence.
Family members left to cherish his memory include two daughters; Leslie Beth Barbee McCready and husband Tracy of Concord, Kimberly Jo Barbee Gordon and husband John of Concord, three brothers; Harry Lee Barbee, his twin, and wife Beverly of Kannapolis, Bobby Ralph Barbee and wife Alice of Charlotte and John Henry Barbee of Concord. Also surviving is one sister, Doris Barbee Benton of Concord along with his grandchildren; Matthew McCready, Nicolas McCready, Kayla Mercuri and husband Matthew, Johnny Gordon and wife Skyler, Jarrett Gordon and Jessica Gordon.
The family requests that memorials be made to Shiloh United Methodist Church, 4149 Odell School Rd, Concord, NC 28027 or to Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
