Fred Ray Bentley

Obituary: Kannapolis - Fred Ray Bentley, age 72, died Thursday, May 14, 2009 at his home after three years of declining health & three months of serious illness. He was born February 7, 1937 in Cabarrus County, NC, the son of the late C. W. Bentley and Lillian James Bentley. He was employed with Wilkerson Construction, Concord, NC as a carpenter for 10 years. He had a special love for beach fishing at Topsail Island, NC. He was known by his family to enjoy carving in woodwork. He had a special friend named Murphy. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a granddaughter, Audrey Bentley. The funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 15, 2009 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Steve Sexton and Rev. Randall Ritchie. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, NC. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Betty Phillips Bentley; one son, Gregory W. Bentley & wife, Jeanette of Salisbury, NC; three daughters, Beverly R. Sexton & husband, Steve, Teresa Kidd & husband, Gerald, and Christine Ritchie and husband, Randall; six grandchildren, Dawn Overcash, Alisha Haas, Jennifer Steedley, Julie Bentley, Amanda Ritchie, Noah Ritchie, and Mallory Newman; five great-grandchildren, Kattie Haas, Hailey Overcash, Sarah Haas, Aiden Steedley, and Isabelle Steedley; one brother, Ted Bentley of Concord, NC. Memorials may be made to Rowan Regional Hospice, 720 Grove Street, Salisbury, NC 28144.
