Fred Ketner Carriker

Obituary: Fred Ketner Carriker, 79 of Concord, passed away on Thursday, June 19, 2014 at the Tucker Hospice House after a brief illness. He was born on April 19, 1935 in Cabarrus County a son of the late William Pinkney and Mattie Mae Furr Carriker. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by 4 brothers; Adam, William, John, and Hubert Carriker, 3 sisters; Mary Lou Brines, Helen Cook, and Francis Carriker. Fred graduated from Concord High School in 1953. After serving in the US Army, he attended Wingate College and later transferred to the University of Texas. After fulfilling his educational requirements he became a math and business professor at the University of Texas and Houston Community College. Following his teaching career he was the owner and operator of Ketner and Company, a wood restoration and marble company. Fred retired in 1998 and returned to North Carolina to spend the remainder of his life with his family. He is survived by a sister; Minnie Viola Childers of Kannapolis, many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Private services will be held for Mr. Carriker.
