Obituary: Frederick (Fred) Charles Garges, 71, of Charlotte, passed away on Saturday, April 14, 2018. He was born November 13, 1946 in Wake County, NC, a son of the late Carl and Winifred Garges. Fred was Valedictorian of his 1964 graduating class of Charlotte Catholic High School.He was an Eagle Scout and earned the Order of the Arrow Award. Following graduation from the University of Dayton in 1968 where he was in the ROTC program, he served in the US. Army, earning the rank of Captain. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal and held a Combat Action Badge for service in Vietnam. Fred was a CPA and a partner in the accounting firm of Vance, Flouhouse & Garges PLLC. Up until the time heart-related issues sidelined him, Fred enjoyed participating in marathons, 5Ks and especially the Cooper River Bridge Run, which he ran for many years. Fred and his wife loved to travel and enjoyed spending time at Ocean Drive, SC, shagging and listening to the great R&B beach music; cooking and entertaining, especially Panthers-themed football parties and Super Bowl parties featuring his signature chili recipes. Every Christmas would find Fred making his renowned English Tea Ring which he delivered to friends and family. Fred never met a stranger and always had a special treat in his pocket for his four-legged friends. He is survived by his wife, Diann; sons Chris (Carrie) and Eric (Molly) Garges and their mother Elizabeth Weigart Garges step-children Doug Holt (Cindy) and Scott Holt (Shelly); grandchildren Ellie and Ryann; step-grandchildren Hailey, Cody and Dylan Holt; Step-Great-grandchildren Bella and Penelope Holt. He is also survived by a brother, Varney Garges (Ruby) and a sister, Mary (Peach) Boyd; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Michael Garges. Fred will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, April 18, 2018, at St. Matthew Catholic Church on Ballentyne Commons Parkway. The family will receive friends at the church at 10:00.
