Fred Ernest Harrington

Obituary: Fred Ernest Harrington, age 80, passed away on Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at Morningside of Concord, Concord, NC. He was born January 26, 1935 in Rowan County, North Carolina, the son of the late Charlie Ralph Harrington and Maude Johnson Harrington. He also served eight years in the U.S. Air Force having spent time in Korea during the conflict. In his earlier years Fred worked for the former Gilwhite Cabinet Shop and later Gulledge Building Supply. In later years Fred was employed with the former Cannon Mills Company, Plant One, Weave Rooms for thirty-three years where he had served as supervisor in the later years until his retirement in 1993. He was a member of the Baptist faith. Throughout the years he was also active with Cannon Memorial Lodge #626. Fred is fondly remembered for his love of trading and his wheeling and dealing with folks over the years at flea markets and yard sales. He had a passion for old cars, old clocks, and lawnmowers. Working on all of these were his favorite pastimes. In addition to his parents he is also preceded in death by a step-daughter, Deartry Sherrill. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, September 17, 2015 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Mike Hubbard. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, NC with Masonic rites conducted by Cannon Memorial Masonic Lodge # 626. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at the funeral home.
