Gail Smith Sloop

Obituary: Gail Smith Sloop, age 68, peacefully passed away on Saturday, April 25, 2015 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born September 5, 1946 in Cabarrus County, NC, the daughter of the late Marvin Wallace Smith and Elizabeth Seaford Smith. Gail was a 1964 graduate of Odell High School and a graduate of UNC-Greensboro. She also received her N.C. Real Estate Broker's License in 1993. Gail was Administrative Assistant to the Vice-President of Development at Davidson College, Davidson, NC with thirty years of service. She was a member of Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church beginning in 1980. In earlier years, she served on the church council when she was a member of the former Bethany Lutheran Church. Her most important job was being a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to so very many who loved and cherished her. Her family fondly remembers her love of going to the beach with her husband, taking trips with her daughters, visiting friends and relatives, going to lunch with her daughters, granddaughters and good friends including the "Odell Babes" who were high school friends that met monthly to talk, laugh and reminisce. Gail loved cooking, sewing, knitting and celebrating holidays with family and friends. Survivors include her husband of almost forty-eight years, Max Conrad Sloop; two daughters, LeAnn Sloop Logan & husband, Jason of Southlake, TX and Gigi Sloop Berg & husband, Todd of Concord, NC; grandchildren, Anna Berg Wilkinson and Emily Arden Berg of Huntersville, NC; a sister, Billie Smith of Concord, NC; Aunt & Uncle, Steve & Rachel Christy of Concord, NC; Uncle, George Smith of Concord, NC; and many wonderful nieces & nephews. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her brother, Wallace (Wally) Smith, Jr.; and a sister, Phyllis Smith Carlson. The funeral service to celebrate her life will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, April 30, 2015 at Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Scott Swixx. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, NC. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at Whitley's Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church, c/o Building Fund, 101 Vance Street, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
Visitation: 6:00-8:00 PM, Wednesday April 29, 2015 Whitley's Funeral Home.

Service: 11:00 AM, Thursday April 29, 2015 Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church.

Interment: Carolina Memorial Park.
