Obituary: Garry C. Compton, 76, of Kannapolis passed away on Thursday, May 29, 2014 at his home. He was born November 24, 1937 in Gaston county, the son of the late Clyde C. Compton and Virginia Bailey Compton. He was preceded in death by a son, Mark Steven Compton on April 19, 2009. Garry retired from Cannon Mills Company after 48 years of service as an electrician. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. In his earlier years, Garry was an avid fast-pitch softball player. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, June 1, 2014 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Rev. Bobby Sutherland and his twin brother, Mr. Larry Compton. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 3:00 PM Sunday at Whitley's. He is survived by his wife, Judy Long Compton, his daughter, Tammy Edwards of Kannapolis that was with him when he passed, his granddaughter, Whitley Edwards, who along with Tammy were the two that would light up his life, his twin brother, Larry Compton of Kannapolis, two nieces, Terrie Silverman of Florida, Deidra Funderburk of Kannapolis and two great nieces, Lydia and Katherine Funderburk. The family would like to thank the staff of Hospice of Cabarrus County, especially nurse Susan Haigler, for the milk shake deliveries and the compassionate care she gave Garry and the family.
