Obituary: Garry Lynn Starnes, 50, passed away unexpectedly Friday morning, March 31, 2017 at CHS-Northeast Medical Center. Garry was born December 20, 1966 in Cabarrus County to the late Robert Glenn Starnes and Frances Marie Bostian Starnes. A 1985 graduate of South Rowan High School, he had continued his education at Rowan Cabarrus Community College, where he obtained an Associate Degree in Industrial Engineering. Garry had earlier worked Cannon Mills and Freightliner, and was employed with Southern Piedmont Construction, where he was a foreman. Garry loved his family and loved people in general. His family remembers him fondly as a talented man who could fix and do just about anything. Gone too soon, Garry will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Family members left with cherished memories include his daughter, Ashlyn Marie Starnes; his son, Tyler Lynn Starnes, both of Kannapolis; their mother, Tammy Britt Starnes (Tammy's daughter, Breeanne Britt); sister, Vickie Marie Monroe and husband, Tom, of Charlotte; his brothers, William Howard Starnes and Robert Lewis Starnes and wife, Amy; sister, Tammie Starnes Freeman; his girlfriend, Lerin McLaren; and many special nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 pm Monday, April 3rd at Whitley's Funeral Home. Services to remember and celebrate the life of Mr. Starnes will begin at 7:00 pm in the funeral home chapel, conducted by Pastor Bobby Sutherland.
