Obituary: Gary Wayne Crayton, age 52, of Kannapolis, passed away unexpectedly at his home Monday, August 11, 2014. His funeral will be held at 2:30 PM, Saturday, August 16 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel with Rev. Marty Payton officiating. Private interment will follow at a later date. His family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 to 2:30 PM on Saturday prior to the funeral at other times they will be at his mother's home. Gary was born November 23, 1961 in Cabarrus Co., a son of the late Matthew Crayton and Peggy Cline Crayton of Kannapolis. He was a lifelong area resident and graduated from NorthWest Cabarrus H.S. in 1980 and graduated from UNCC in 1984 with a BEET degree. Gary worked for Duke Power and Johnson Controls for many years. He was a member of Brookdale Baptist Church and loved music. Gary loved to play guitar in various local bands. He was also an avid runner. Gary was a loving father, son, brother and uncle. He will be dearly missed. In addition to his father, Gary was preceded in death by his son, Joshua Aaron Crayton in 1988. Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter and light of his life, Traci Lynn Crayton of Winston Salem, his mother, Peggy Cline Crayton and brothers; Matthew Crayton (Valerie) and Mark Crayton (Karen) all of Kannapolis, his sister Belva C.
