Gary Lee Hamblin, 74, of Kannapolis, peacefully passed away Tuesday afternoon, September 29, 2020, at his home, surrounded by love.
Born December 1, 1945 in Portsmouth, OH, he was a son of the late Lester and Juanita Barton Hamblin. In addition to his parents, preceding him in death were his sisters, Stella Bosse, Barbara Moore and Sharon Patrias.
Earlier in life, Gary had held the distinction of Golden Gloves Champion in the state of Ohio. Mr. Hamblin was owner of Sunshine Plants. He had been past president of Reed Gold Mine and truly loved panning for gold, with a natural gift for spotting that elusive shiny nugget. He also enjoyed fishing on the coast, held his pilot’s license and had served in the National Guard. A hard working and multitalented man, Gary had cut the timber from his land, milled and built his beautiful home. A devoted husband, father and friend of many, Gary will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Family members include his loving wife, Denae Hamblin; his step children, Kevin Farmer and Holly Davis (Justin); grandchildren, Braxton, Noah and Jonah; and his brother, Leo Hamblin (Dee) and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 1:00-3:00 pm Thursday, October 8th at Whitley’s Funeral Home. Memorial services to remember and celebrate the life of Gary will begin at 3:00 pm the funeral home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Steve Wilson. Burial will be private at a later date.
