Gary Young Howard Sr.

Obituary: Gary Young Howard, Sr. passed away Monday, May 26, 2014 at his residence. Mr. Howard was born July 21, 1934 in Iredell County to the late Grey Obedare Howard and Sarah Vanpelt Howard. Mr. Howard was a United States Air Force retiree; after retirement he was employed by the NC Department of Corrections; he was a member of Thistle Lodge (Scotland) - 32 Degree Mason; and he was a member of Centerview Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Dorothea Wiles Howard of the home; son, Gary Young Howard, Jr. of Kannapolis; a daughter, Rita Faye Howard Hudson (Tony) of Concord, NC; eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; a brother, Worth Wayne Howard of Kannapolis, NC. Gary was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Denise Howard Gulledge; a grandson, Timothy Scott Howard.; and by three brothers, Joel Gwen Howard, James Richard Howard, and Steve Howard. Graveside services with military honors will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, May 29, 2014 at Carolina Memorial Park with the Rev. Ralph Robinette officiating. The family will receive friends at Whitley's Funeral Home on Thursday from 9:00-10:30 a.m. prior to graveside services at the cemetery.
