Gary Wayne Rhodes

Gary Wayne Rhodes, age 63 of Kannapolis passed away unexpectedly at his home on Saturday, March 19, 2022.

He was born on August 26, 1958 in Cabarrus Co., the son of Edward and Shirley Key Rhodes of Kannapolis. In addition to his parents, Gary is survived by his wife of 39 years, Sherry Rhodes of the home, his daughter Nikki Brigman of Concord; his son Travis Rhodes of Kannapolis; his grandchildren Haley, Seth and Sadie Brigman; his two sisters Teresa Allman (Kilburn) of Rockwell and Lori Bradshaw (Tommy) of Kannapolis; several loving nieces and nephews as well as his grand-dog Angus.

Gary was a lifelong area resident and graduate of A. L. Brown HS - Class of 1976. He was a proud veteran of the US Army. Gary worked many years for the City of Kannapolis in the Street Maintenance Dept., retiring in 2012. He was an avid Cincinnati Reds fan. He loved the outdoors, fishing, birdwatching and mowing grass. Gary enjoyed studying nature and identifying all the local trees and plants to his family. He loved family time and taking trips to the mountains. Gary enjoyed volunteering to deliver meals to the community seniors and shut-ins. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, son and brother. He will be dearly missed.

A graveside service with military honors, celebrating of his life, will be held at 12:00 PM noon on Thursday, March 24 at West Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday, March 23 at Whitley's Funeral Home.
