Obituary: Gary Michael Safriet, 78 of China Grove passed away on Sunday, December 18, 2016 at Trinity Oaks of Salisbury. He was the loving husband of Rebekah Dayvault Safriet to whom he was married to for 47 years. Gary was born on July 23, 1938 in Rowan County to the late Elmer Brown Safriet and Duree Sechler Safriet. Graduating from Landis High School in 1956, Gary entered the armed services the next day after graduation. He served in the United States Air Force from 1956 to 1960. He worked in Cannon Mills, Bendix-Westinghouse, China Grove Post Office, and over 30 years at the Salisbury Post Office. For many years he was president of the Salisbury Post Office APWC Union. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Salisbury for 46 years. For over 30 years he had his own gun shop behind his home. He loved to hunt, fish and work in his workshop. Gary was a life member of the NRA, a member of the Eureka Masonic Lodge 283 for over 55 years, a member of the Rowan Shrine Club American Legion Post # 185 for over 40 years and a member of the Rufty Holmes Men's Club. In addition to his wife Rebekah, Gary is survived by his son, Cory Safriet of Texas, five grandchildren: Josh Dellinger of Charlotte, Aurora, Luna, Kiera, and Isabella Safriet of Colorado Springs, Colorado. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 P.M. Thursday, December 22, 2016 at Grace Lutheran Church with the Rev. Jerome Cloninger officiating. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park, China Grove. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:00 Noon until 1:15 P.M. Thursday prior to the service.
