Gary Allen Sims

Obituary: Gary Allen Sims, 74, of Concord, went home to be with his Eternal Father, Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at CMC-Northeast following a brief illness. Gary was born May 26, 1937 in Cabarrus County, NC son of the late George Allen and Frances Ashby Sims. He was a graduate of Concord High School and a Veteran of the US Army serving from 1957-1959. He was a retired driver license examiner with the NCDMV. Gary was known as an avid Duke Blue Devils Basketball and Atlanta Braves fan. Gary was a devoted caregiver for 23 years to his loving wife. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Friday, March 2, 2012 at Whitley's Funeral Home Annex Chapel conducted by Rev. Tom Anderson. Interment will follow in Carolina Memorial Park Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the Cabarrus County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends at Whitley's Funeral Home Annex Chapel from 1:00-2:00 P.M. Friday prior to the service. At other times they will be at the residence of the son, Gary A. Sims, Jr. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Ada Fink Sims of the Home, one son, Gary A. (Lisa) Sims, Jr. of Salisbury, daughter, Donna S. Beck of Fla. two grandchildren, Chrissy Lambert and Katie Beck, one sister, Pat Bowling of Monroe and a nephew Jeff Bowling.
