Gaynell Compton Hendren

Obituary: Gaynell Compton Hendren, age 81, passed away at her home on Sunday, August 30, 2009. She was born March 25, 1928 in Iredell County, NC, the daughter of the late William Everett Compton and Margaret Cook Compton. She was a homemaker most of her life. She was a member of the Baptist faith. She had lived in the area since 1953 moving here from the Mooresville area. She had a special love for her husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her baby poodle, Ginger Leigh. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by a son, Steve Nantz; two sisters, Margaret Pressley and Jean Kerr; a brother, Roger Compton. A graveside service will be 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, September 2, 2009 at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Darrell Worley. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, September 1, 2009 at Whitley's Funeral Home. Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Carl Hendren; one son, Tim Hendren & wife, Lisa of China Grove, NC; three daughters, Cindy Shinn & husband, William of Mooresville, NC, Amy H. Moon & husband, Greg of Kannapolis, NC, and Jody H. Lambert of Kannapolis, NC; One brother, Jack Compton of Mooresville, NC; thirteen grandchildren, Michael Nantz, Stephanie Davis, Teresa Bradford, Stephen Shinn, Jamie Shinn, Noah Moon, Hannah Moon, Adrian Hendren, Andrew Hendren, Ashley Hendren, Alyssa Hendren, Ariel Hendren, and Aubrey Hendren; Twelve great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 222 S. Church Street, Charlotte, NC 28202. On-line condolences may be left at www.whitleysfuneralhome.com.
