Obituary: Gene Branyon, II, 55, of 2567 Old Ashworth Ln., Concord, NC died unexpectedly on Friday, January 3, 2014 at CMC-NorthEast after grieving the love of his life, his wife, Rhonda Sumrall Branyon who passed away on Nov. 21, 2013. Gene dearly loved Rhonda. Gene was born March 31, 1955 in Anderson Co., SC, the son of Anita Moorhead Branyon of Travelers Rest, SC and the late Max Branyon. For 35 years he worked for Duke Energy, currently as a Transmission Operator. Gene was a fantastic husband, father, grandfather, son and a friend to many. He was known in his neighborhood as "Dad" to everyone. Gene loved life immensely. The funeral service will take place at 2PM, today, Jan. 5, 2014 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. Noah LaCoursiere. Burial will take place at Carolina Mem. Park. The family will receive friends at Whitley's from 12:00-2:00 before the service. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his daughter, Hailey Branyon and a grandson, Cooper Wood both of Concord.
