Obituary: Gene Hodge, age 73, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at his home. He was born December 12, 1940 in Chesterfield County, SC, the son of the late Knoxie Hodge and Margaret Shaw Hodge. Gene was a 1959 graduate of A.L. Brown High School. Gene was employed in management with N.A.P.A Auto Parts and Advance Auto Parts for many years until his retirement. He also worked as a part-time associate at Whitley's Funeral Home, Kannapolis, NC. He continued his membership with the Motor Carriers Association throughout the years. Gene was an active member of First Wesleyan Church, Kannapolis, NC where he had served as Sunday School Superintendent, choir leader, chairman of the local board of administration, a supporter of the Camp Wesley Camp Meeting, and as head usher for many years. He was also active in the N.C. West District Wesleyan Men's as President. Also, he served as President of the Wesleyan Men at First Wesleyan Church and as a delegate to the West District Conference. He loved playing golf with friends and spending time with his precious grandchildren. Gene was a devoted family man. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a son, Christopher Scott Hodge. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at First Wesleyan Church, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Edwin Chriscoe. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, NC. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Monday, January 27, 2014 at Whitley's Funeral Home. The family will be at the residence the remainder of the time. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Linda Allman Hodge; his children, Gina Lynn Collins & husband Edward of Greensboro, NC and Angel Kay Wood & husband, Todd of Boone, NC; his grandchildren, Hannah Collins & Brady Collins of Greensboro, NC and Mack Wood of Boone, NC; his sister, Mary Sue Bentley & husband, Larry of Kannapolis, NC.
